Installing Vst Plugins On External Hard Drive

Installing vst plugins on external hard drives

Since the majority of iZotope products aren't sample-based software and don't contain a sound library, there's nothing to relocate when installing. This is because most host applications/DAWs look in the same locations for plugin components and this can't be moved on Mac. BreakTweaker and Iris 2 have Library files that can be moved. We recommend installing the Ableton Live application and all third-party plugins on this system drive. It is highly recommended to always keep at least 10% of free space on your system disk. /free-dark-creepy-vst.html. 2nd drive - Samples and Libraries. The second hard drive in this configuration is used to store samples and sound libraries, including the User Library. /vst-4-free-808.html.

Hi there I have a few VSt's that I'm using in Logic 7.2: Predator, Blue, Massive, FabFiltor One @ V Station. I find that when I'm using say 3 Vsts its very taxing on computer and the Activity Monitor says that Logic is using 150% of my cpu and It keeps stopping mid flow saying that 'Logic cant process all the sounds in time'
I know it's these VST's because in previous prodject b4 I got them I'm only using 50% of my cpu.
My question is Can I install my Vst's to an external hard drive and run them from there. If so would it solve my problem?
ps I'm not the most technical of us so please speak in semi laymans terms =)

  1. OK I figured it out. For some reason the plug-ins have to be placed directly in: C: Program Files Image-Line FL Studio 8 PlugIns VST but not: C: Program Files Image-Line FL Studio 8 PlugIns It's kind of annoying. I think FL Studio should be able to read VST's from any location on any drive.
  2. Mac OS X users: From within Studio One n avigate to Preferences/Options/ Locations/VST Plug-ins Click on the Add button, and specify the location of your plug-in. You can also drag-and-drop any folder from the Explorer/Finder into the Locations list in Studio One.
  3. Instead of installing the plugins to the SSD, I'd install the plugin dll files on your C: drive (in the appropriate VST Plugins folder/s). And install the accompanying sample libraries on the SSD. That gives you the best of both worlds.
  4. Found this is the Omnisphere 2.2 manual: WINDOWS - MOVING THE STEAM DIRECTORY AFTER INSTALLATION. Drag or copy the STEAM folder from your installation drive (C:ProgramDataSpectrasonics) to the hard drive location of your choice. This can be another drive partition, a secondary internal drive or an external hard drive such as a Firewire or USB2 hard drive, etc.
  5. Samples and Sounds on External Hard Drives Updated Oct 4, 2019 Recording audio to your system drive past 2 inputs at a time is general considered a bad idea, using dedicated empty drives for audio data and not the system drive is the best choice for quality multi-track audio.
